What is Plasma Fibroblast?

This is a non-surgical, non-invasive alternative for INCREDIBLE skin tightening results, especially for sagging skin and fine lines around the eyes and mouth. A special device called a “plasma pen” induces a very superficial burn to the epidermis only, which causes the body to respond by stimulating fibroblast cell activity. Fibroblasts are the cells responsible for secreting all the important healing and tightening compounds of the ECM or extra-cellular matrix and connective tissues in the skin.

What are the benefits of Plasma Fibroblast?

A plasma fibroblast treatment is a non-surgical treatment for the correction of fine lines, wrinkles and for skin tightening and rejuvenation. Both the cost and downtime after a plasma fibroblast treatment is far less than with a chemical or laser treatment with similar results. A plasma fibroblast treatment is an especially good alternative to blepharoplasty (surical repair for drooping eyelids) and the treatment area is very precise. This is also a NATURAL treatment, harnessing the body’s own mechanisms for rejuvenation and repair.

How many treatments will I need? How long do treatment sessions last?

Most patients will see the benefit of plasma fibroblast IMMEDIATELY, but the results will continue to improve over time within the first 2-3 weeks after treatment as the fibroblasts lay down new ECM proteins and collagen. Most patients see maximum results with two to three treatments, but this procedure can be repeated as often as every 6-8 weeks until the desired effect is achieved.

Treatments are typically scheduled for 60 to 90 minutes. A topical anesthetic cream is applied to the treatment area and allowed to soak into the skin for approximately 30 minutes. The treatment itself is between 20-30 minutes or more depending on how many areas are being treated at once. Before your treatment, Dr. Lindsay will schedule a 30-60 minute consultation to discuss your specific skincare goals and concerns, your treatment will be scheduled for the appropriate amount of time determined during your consultation.

What is the cost of Plasma Fibroblast? How long do results last?

The cost of Plasma Fibroblast depends on the area(s) being treated. Typical price per area is approximately $300-$450. The results do not “wear off” in the same way that botox or dermal fillers will. The Plasma Pen is stimulating your own fibroblasts to lay down new collagen and tighten the skin, so the results are “permanent”…but this procedure does not stop the normal aging process and breakdown of collagen over time.

What areas can be treated with Plasma Fibroblast?

  • Eyelid Skin Tightening: both upper and lower lids (alternative to blepharoplasty

  • Fine lines and wrinkles: crow’s feet, frown lines, necklines, around the mouth

  • Skin Pigmentation: age spots, sun spots, melasma, freckles

  • Scarring: stretch marks (anywhere on the body), acne carring or post-surgical scarring

  • Lesions: skin-tags, moles

Is this procedure painful? What’s the downtime?

For most patients, there is mild to moderate discomfort during the procedure, but every effort is made including the use of a strong topical anesthetic cream to minimize discomfort. Most patients feel no discomfort following the procedure. For the first 2-5 days after the procedure, there may be some swelling and “crusts” or tiny brown dots form on the treatment area. You can resume normal work/activity the day after your procedure and the dots are typically completely healed within the first 7 days after treatment. Makeup (mineral only) can be used to cover the tiny dots or “crusts” for cosmetic effect if needed.

Are there any side effects or risks associated with this treatment? Are there aftercare requirements?

As with any medical procedure, there can be risks and side effects associated with treatment. Dr. Lindsay takes every precaution before, during and after your treatment in order to keep you safe and healthy. Some of the possible, although rare side effects include post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, swelling and minor itching/redness and crusting/scabbing of the areas being treated. Dr. Lindsay has a very details post-treatment aftercare protocol to give you the best possible results and minimize the risks of side effects or complications.
